The project monitor displays audio waveforms and information about trimming. A new feature called “source tape” lets you see all your imported shots as one long clip. The workflow is completely different from Edit. It features a new dual timeline (an overview above and detailed timeline below) that eliminates the need to zoom. It can handle most basic chores, including importing, trimming, dissolves, titles, audio mixing and color matching, all directly from the timeline. With Resolve 16, Blackmagic Design introduced Cut, which is designed to fit better on a laptop screen and help YouTubers edit faster. However, you can program Resolve to work the same way simply by choosing Adobe Premiere Pro from the keyboard customization settings. Most editors rely on keyboard shortcuts to work efficiently, and, of course, they’re different in each app. And basic functions like setting trimming, cutting and inserting work in much the same way. Bins, effects, the timeline and source and record viewers are in roughly the same places. Resolve’s Edit space is surprisingly similar to editing in Premiere Pro. That’s without even talking about the extra cost of those apps. It’s faster and more convenient to do color correction, audio work and effects than it is to jump from Premiere Pro to After Effects to Audition using Adobe’s dynamic link system. I like that all the Resolve apps are bundled into one workspace. The same can’t be said about After Effects, for instance, which has a vastly different UI from Premiere Pro. The different Resolve apps have a similar look and feel, so it’s easier to learn the parts of the program. Media lets you organize your video, audio and other files, Cut is a new section designed for quick editing, Edit is where you assemble your show, Fusion is for compositing (roughly equal to Adobe After Effects), Color is for color correction, Fairlight is for audio editing and Deliver lets you export your final show. It’s now divided into seven distinct workspaces. However, Resolve has made great strides in this area over the last few versions. It’s easy to switch to color correction and audio editing, and full Creative Cloud subscribers have access to advanced tools like After Effects, Audition and Photoshop. It has a deep feature set that many editors know and like, along with useful AI tools, decent media management and more. When it comes to the UI and editing features, Premiere Pro is hard to beat. (For a breakdown of the differences between Resolve and Resolve Studio, check here.) UI and editing However, I’ll be sure to mention any features available in the Studio version that aren’t available on the free Resolve 16.2 app. Software-wise, I’ve got a full (paid) Adobe Cloud subscription and license for the Studio version of Resolve 16.2. Both have 32GB of RAM, fast NVMe internal SSDs to run the program and relatively fast SATA SSDs for editing. I tested both on my Gigabyte Aero 15X laptop with quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU and NVIDIA GTX 1070 Max-Q graphics, as well as a desktop machine with an 8-core Intel CPU and NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti graphics. I edit both at home and on the road, so I wanted to see how the apps performed on a decent laptop and high-end desktop machine. I took a long look at elements like speed, color correction, audio and text handling and checked with Engadget’s video producer Chris Schodt - here’s what I discovered. To that end, I wanted to see if the benefits of replacing Premiere Pro with Resolve would outweigh the drawbacks. For many editors, it could disrupt their workflow enough to be a dealbreaker. And Adobe Premiere integrates tightly with other apps, like Photoshop, that are less easy to replace. Still, switching apps for something as complex as video editing can be terrifying. It also has a deep set of tools for HDR, color, FX and audio, along with fast exports and other benefits. And while Premiere Pro CC seems to get slower and buggier with every release, Resolve 16 has become cleaner and snappier. Resolve 16 is quite an improvement over the last version, especially when it comes to ease-of-use. To start with, Resolve 16 is free, and even the $300 Studio version costs less over time than Premiere Pro’s obligatory monthly plans. Since Blackmagic Design’s Resolve 16 came out last year, a lot of video editors may have been tempted to ditch Adobe Premiere Pro CC. These new Hi-Power clones began competing with each other by offering new finishes, enhanced sights, redesigned hammers, beveled magazine wells, improved trigger, and increased magazine capacity. From 2019 to 2022, with new Belgian Hi-Powers no longer being built, new clones were designed by various firearm companies to fill the void, including GİRSAN, TİSAŞ, and Springfield Armory, Inc. Although most pistols were built in Belgium by FN Herstal, licensed and unlicensed copies were built around the world, in countries such as Argentina, Hungary, India, Bulgaria, and Israel.Īfter 82 years of continuous production, FN Herstal announced that the production of the Hi-Power would end, and it was discontinued in early 2018 by Browning Arms. The Hi-Power is one of the most widely used military pistols in history, having been used by the armed forces of over 50 countries. Other names include GP (after the French term grande puissance) or BAP (Browning Automatic Pistol). The pistol is often referred to as an HP or BHP, and the terms P-35 and HP-35 are also used, based on the introduction of the pistol in 1935. The name change was kept even after production returned to Belgium. FN Herstal continued to build guns for the Allied forces by moving their production line to a John Inglis and Company plant in Canada, where the name was changed to "Hi Power". FN Herstal named it the "High Power" in allusion to the 13-round magazine capacity, almost twice that of other designs at the time, such as the Luger or Colt M1911.ĭuring World War II, Belgium was occupied by Nazi Germany and the FN factory was used by the Wehrmacht to build the pistols for their military, under the designation "9mm Pistole 640(b)". Browning died in 1926, several years before the design was finalized. It was based on a design by American firearms inventor John Browning, and completed by Dieudonné Saive at FN Herstal. The Browning Hi-Power is a single-action, semi-automatic pistol available in the 9×19mm Parabellum and. 20 or 30 rounds made by Rhodesia ( 9mm). The younger and poorer equivalent of MS Office. I’m very surprised that this company fails to evolve and follow the footsteps of their competitors who are making a killing with their simple software. Especially when you compare it to some of the software I list below. Most of you are familiar with Microsoft Office, so there’s no point explaining it, but one thing must be said: this software has a seriously bad vibe. You don’t know which one to pick, so you go for the cheapest one only to find out that my beloved Picture Manager app, the only good piece of software Microsoft developed in years, is not included in the package. Buying their Office software is a very complicated process because they offer a whole bunch of different packages. Maybe I’m being sentimental? I’m kind of tempted to sell my Pro at half price and purchase a new Air.Īlright, time for the Review of Writing Apps Office 365 Though I can’t explain it, for some reason the Macbook Air seems to give out a better vibe. Last spring, I didn’t even turn on my PC for weeks on end because I prefered to connect my Mac to a large monitor. Actually, some of them don’t even have their equivalent on Windows. Not only does it have a certain vibe to it, but it’s got a lot of apps which for some reasons you can’t get on Windows. I’m saying ‘unfortunately’ because I’m aware not everybody can afford to buy one. I know my way around all common computers and operating systems, and, unfortunately, I have to say that MacBooks are the best piece of hardware created for writing. The right hardware and software is the foundation of any good writing. But why go through that if there’s dedicated writing apps on the market? Windows or OS X? I mean, you can write in the most basic notebook app, sure. The only other thing we need now is good software. These problems are long gone thanks to PCs and laptops. Every mistake I made meant I had to type out the entire page again or use correction fluid. Kind of a weird decision on my part, because I could have just asked a friend to print it out for me, but I was determined to pretend I was a real writer. I had decided to participate in a short story competition but I didn’t have a printer in my home. I also experienced a short-lived romance with a typewriter. I also vaguely remember “writing” a novel in a drawing pad. Obviously, they didn’t even look like screenplays, because I was a teen and had no idea what I was doing. Before that, I wrote two screenplays in my maths notebook. My first three books were created within the pages of such notebooks. What to write in? I started off with A4 notebooks. Let’s talk about technical matters first. So I decided to help them a little, because I know how to do it on my own and I know how to do it with a publishing house. And if they do, then they definitely don’t know how to talk to publishers. But they don’t know how to write it and what to do with the manuscript. Then again, there’s a growing number of people who dream of publishing a book. There’s a lot of bloggers who are not tech savvy enough to take care of all word processing matters. This is going to be the first article of a longer series I’ve been meaning to write for a long time.
